We’ve finally got our hands on the McLaren 750 S, and it’s facing off against a bunch of incredible supercars - the Ferrari 296 GTB, Lamborghini Huracan Performante, and Porsche 911 Turbo S! So let’s see how these magnificent machines compare. Starting with the McLaren, it’s powered by a 4-litre twin-turbo V8. This delivers 750hp and 800Nm to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and it weighs in at just 1,389kg. Alongside it, we have the Ferrari. It’s packing a 3-litre twin-turbo V6 along with an electric motor, and these combine to put down 830hp and 740Nm of torque. This is sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and it tips the scales at 1,470kg. FIRST LOOK: Porsche Taycan Turbo GT – Smashes Tesla’s Lap Record AGAIN!
The Porsche Taycan Turbo S is already absurdly fast – but now it’s been beaten. By Porsche. To battle the likes of the Tesla Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Sapphire, Stuttgart has cooked up the Taycan Turbo GT, capable of 0-62mph in as little as 2.2 seconds. Yep. Absurd. It remains dependent on a dual-motor (rather than tri-motor) set-up, but can generate up to 1,108hp in its ‘Attack’ mode, and go all the way to 190mph. It’s lapped the Nürburgring in 7mins 7sec and has now destroyed Tesla’s record around California’s best racetrack: Laguna Seca. Top Gear’s Ollie Kew was there to witness the record being set, give a tour of the new super-Taycan, and have a passenger ride in the record car with Porsche’s lap time hero, Lars Kern. It’s a hugely impressive machine (the Turbo GT, not Lars), but is it one the world actually needed? Mat and Racing Driver Sam have flown over to Texas to get their hands on a pair of Hennessy powerhouses, and they’re set to go head-to-head on Hennessey’s own drag strip! So let’s see how these two contenders compare. First off, we have Mat in the Hennessey Mammoth, which is based on the Dodge RAM TRX. It comes with a 6.2-litre supercharged V8, but the power output has been increased to 1,012hp and 1,314Nm of torque! Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and this HUGE pick-up tips the scales at 2,921kg! Then we have the Hennessey H1000 Charger. It comes with pretty much the same engine as the Mammoth, so it has a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 that can put down 1,000hp and 1,285Nm. It comes with an 8-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels only, and it weighs in at 2,086kg.
